- Are you a confident, outgoing, inquisitive friend maker, with a buy/sell trader mentality? If so, this new role as Procurement/Sales consultant, with an ambitious compliance scheme company working in the environmental/recycling field could be for you. This is a mix of Field sales/procurement covering the Country, building relationships with Re-processors of paper, plastic, wood, steel, aluminium and glass and then buying Packaging Recovery Notes which you'll sell to your obligated Producers. Offering up to £55k basic, healthy bonus, car or allowance, plus other benefits.
-THE ROLE;
- As Procurement Consultant, your role will be to buy Packaging Waste Recovery Notes (PRNs) and Packaging Export Recovery Notes (PERNS) which come onto the market from brokers and Accredited Re-processors, which evidences the tonnage of waste that they have recycled to a required standard.
- These evidence notes are then used by Producers of Packaging, being companies that turnover £2million+ and handle over 50 tonnes of packaging to offset their packaging waste obligations under UK legislation.
- As a Compliance Scheme and Advisory company that represent several thousand businesses to which this legislation applies, your role is to buy Packaging Recovery Notes of the relevant type and quantity in order to then sell to your members as they need them, to offset the companies that you advise with their recycling legal obligations.
- The PRN market, like the stock market is based on Supply and Demand, where prices fluctuate because of a number of factors, including annual recycling targets set by Governments, economic events, recycling collections and infrastructure, global buying patterns and commodity prices.
- You, the buyer, have to make sure that the evidence that the waste has been recycled responsibly and that the PRN certificate is compliant and ethical.
- These evidence notes or PRNs or PERNs have different cost points and value, depending on whether the Re-processor is recycling wood, glass, paper, plastic, steel or aluminium.
- Your role is to build strong relationships with these Re-processors, for example a scrap metal company/recycling company, so that you can be made aware of when certain PRNs come to the market (which is after the recycling has been done) and you can buy the PRN certificate directly from them.
- These are often small family run companies, set on industrial estates. There are hundreds of these types of companies around the country, so in the 1st year of this role, you'll be on the road, several days per week, understanding their businesses and building those relationships.
- THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE;
- Because these PRNs and PERNs are used as evidence that a company has achieved their recycling targets to comply with UK legislation, this is more of a relationship building, trade/buy and sell at the right time, type of role, rather than the role of a traditional buyer, so procurement experience isn't a prerequisite.
- The ability to make conversation and show an interest in the Re-processor and their business and build relationships with them is more important, so a salesy led personality would suit this role.
- You will monitor the PRN market availability, pricing trends and volatility and negotiate pricing on both when you buy from the Pre-processor and when you sell to your Producers, who need to purchase the PRN certificates as proof of their compliance.
- You can be located anywhere in England, ideally close to motorway networks, with the South East or Midlands being the preferred location, although when not in-front of clients, after training you will work from home or hybrid if close to their office, which is based in the Northern home counties.
- If you have experience working for a Packaging compliance scheme company or you have any understanding or interest of UK Packaging compliance with buying or sales experience in waste, recycling or environmental compliance then that would be great.
- You'll manage Spot Buying versus Forward contracts, so that trading mentality is a bonus.
- THE COMPANY;
- Our client is a well established, highly regarded specialist environmental/recycling consultancy.
- The business positions itself as a compliance scheme and advisory partner, helping organisations understand their obligations, manage submissions and stay compliant with evolving UK legislation.
- THE REMUNERATION;
- £40K- £55K Basic salary, dependent on experience.
- Annual bonus that could range from £5k- £50k dependent on how well you trade.
- Company car or car allowance.
- 20 days holiday, rising with service, plus Birthday off, plus Bank holidays.
